Environmental Planning Associate, Siglo Group, Austin, Texas. July 2014–Present. Perform tree inventories, invasive species mapping, and site assessments. Assist with natural area and park planning, along with associated report writing. Perform geographic analysis, manage databases, and create and edit maps using GIS and design software.
Ecosystem Design Group Intern, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin, Texas. June–August 2014. Researched and compiled plant guides for landscape design project clients. Assisted with ongoing greenroof technology research. Gathered and delivered information for project leads such as characteristics of plants and Low Impact Design best practices.
Field Technician and Invasive Plant Consultant, The Vermont Chapter of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Montpelier, Vermont and the Vermont Land Trust (VLT), Montpelier, Vermont. May 2013–May 2014. Mapped invasive plants on 22 properties using iPads running the GISRoam application; working directly with 22 landowners, produced reports including maps and management recommendations; analyzed patterns in invasive plant distribution using ArcGIS and statistical analyses; compiled a report for TNC and VLT with assessment of current invasive plant distribution, risk maps for 4 invasive plants in a 3km area around a TNC natural area based on patterns seen on surveyed properties, and recommended approach to outreach to landowners in the study area. This position fulfilled the Ecological Planning curriculum’s requirement of a Master’s project with an outside organization.
Teacher’s Assistant, Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont. September 2012–May 2014. Assisted professors for Natural History and Field Ecology, Measurements and Mapping, Ecosystem Management, and Global Environmental Assessment courses. A sample of duties, which varied by course, includes: Instructed field-based lab section of 20 students; provided instruction on field techniques; graded and provided feedback on group projects, exams and other student work; delivered guest lectures; tested and edited GIS lab instructions; answered student questions in GIS and outdoor labs.
