The role of the GIS Analyst will be to support scientists and development staff at the LP DAAC in implementing new geospatial technologies for distributing, analyzing, and increasing the usability of NASA remote sensing datasets. The GIS Analyst will work with remote sensing data such as MODIS, VIIRS, and ASTER and web services such as ESRI Image Services and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Services on a daily basis.
The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver who can respond to evolving development needs in an applied research setting. An eagerness to learn and implement new technologies is a must.
Prepare time-series remote sensing datasets in raster format for use in ArcGIS Server as ESRI Image Services and OGC Web Services such as WMS and WCS for public user and application consumption.
Create mosaic datasets and raster function templates for time-series remote sensing data in the ArcGIS Server environment
Create appropriate metadata for services such as WMS and WCS
Assist in the development and design of LP DAACs GIS Strategy and Architecture
Work with LP DAAC Science Communications staff to create ESRI Story Maps using data services to demonstrate uses of application data
Use languages such as Python, R, and the ArcPy site package to automate workflow processes and interact with remote sensing data.
Create tutorials, workflows, and toolboxes to help facilitate the use and understanding of remote sensing data in the GIS community
Research and prototype new geospatial technologies using software such as ArcMap, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Pro
About Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT)
Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT), headquartered in Greenbelt Maryland, is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (EROS) Center near Sioux Falls, SD and is recruiting a GIS Analyst to support the Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC). The LP DAAC is a NASA-funded project that has been located at the USGS EROS Center since 1990. Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) staff provide operations, software engineering and development, outreach, and scientific support to the LP DAAC as well as support for Principal Investigators and thousands of users in the public Earth science community.
