As VP of People, you will be a core member of the executive leadership team, and will be working closely with them and the entire Mapbox team. The role reports to our President & COO. This position will be based in San Francisco and will travel regularly to our various office locations, including at least once a quarter to our Washington, DC office.
What you will be doing
Help build and reinforce our culture, and facilitate an environment that enables the best possible way of working.
Grow and retain a diverse team and foster an inclusive environment, including spearheading efforts around diversity and inclusion and sponsoring Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to ensure engagement and retention of all employees.
Provide advice, consultation, and coaching to the People team and employees on conflict, performance, and anything else.
Develop and implement thoughtful, consistent (but minimal) HR processes, procedures and policies to support our employees as we grow.
Lead and build a team of HR professionals responsible for the full employee lifecycle – including implementation and management of HR programs such as onboarding, 360 feedback, performance management, and learning and development (L&D).
Lead and build a team of recruiting professionals focused on growing Mapbox in a thoughtful and inclusive way by bringing in bright, driven, and diverse team members who are aligned with our values. This includes building a repeatable and scalable recruiting model, measuring team outcomes and providing interview training for all interviewers.
Lead and build a team focused on our Spaces and Employee Experience who manage our facilities and all things that create a positive work experience at Mapbox: from ergonomics to weekly lunches and social activities.

Mapbox prides itself in its transparency and open source ideology, and as such, our employees will expect you to represent their interests to the leadership team and communicate back decisions made at the leadership level with regular cadence. We use GitHub and Slack as our primary means of communication so written communication skills are paramount.
Innovative thinking – as the competition for top talent increases, you must be willing to seek out and adopt innovative approaches to attracting, engaging and developing top talent. Your ability to implement new engagement and talent management strategies that differentiate Mapbox from other companies will be important.
