Job Responsibilities & Requirements

This is a critical position on Barings’ growing U.S. Real Estate Market Research & Strategy team, responsible for guiding the strategic focus of the firm’s $35+ billion U.S. real estate investment portfolio which includes equity, debt, and securities investments on all property types across 60+ major markets nationally.

Typical Responsibilities

•Aggregate, analyze, and present economic, real estate market data, capital market, and property market trends from a broad array of resources in support of real estate equity and debt investment strategies.
•Support real estate investment decisions with independent market analysis for acquisitions, commercial mortgage financing, securities and capital markets, for a $50 billion global real estate portfolio with investments in all property sectors.  Primary focus of the job is U.S. markets.
•Prepare market analyses and forecasts for investment opportunities.
•Prepare and present research briefs to the Debt and Equity Investment Committees.
•Prepare client presentations and respond to ad-hoc client requests.
•Maintain and enhance Barings’ proprietary research database.
•Actively participate in and represent the firm in selected industry associations.
•Work closely with Investment Officers, Portfolio Managers, and Client Service & Reporting to provide timely and accurate market analysis.
•Work with data vendors.
•Interact with both internal and external clients on time-sensitive projects while maintaining a collegial demeanor.
•Independently manage assigned projects to meet business objectives and requirements.

Knowledge Requirements

•2 – 5 years of business experience preferably in real estate research.
•Undergraduate degree in economics or related field.
•Graduate degree in a related field a plus.
•Background in urban economics and real estate research and a genuine interest and curiosity about cities and urban growth dynamics preferred.
•Global real estate exposure and experience a plus.
•Familiarity with economic, demographic and real estate market data resources.
•Experience in presenting economic analysis in a client setting preferred.
•Fluency in Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Access, Tableau, GIS and other database applications.
•Experience in presenting economic analysis preferred.
•Authorized to work in the US with or without sponsorship.
