Overview

To perform data entry into the county Geographic Information System (GIS), create and update county maps, perform spatial analysis of GIS data and provide GIS assistance to staff and the public. The successful candidate will also work closely with end users to understand their business needs and make recommendations for enhancements to GIS maps, data, and software.
Examples of Duties for Success

Maintain and update spatial and tabular databases for various map layers.
Create data by properly interpreting paper maps, engineering drawings, photos, site plans and legal descriptions into digital layers.
Interpret and analyze aerial photography; rectify scanned images to digitize spatial data.
Perform spatial analysis of various digital map data.
Collect field data utilizing GPS technology.
Research county records, website, and any available information for data updates and maintenance.
Use proper cartographic practices to create a variety of maps for internal and external customers.
Provide information about the creation and maintenance of data and maps to the staff and public.
Use address and ownership data to create mailing lists.
Participate in the evaluation of new software applications.
Learn methods to gather and understand business requirements and translate into GIS solutions.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Concepts of basic GIS principles.
Become proficient in cartography and map design.
Principles, practices, and techniques for applying GIS technology to Public Works, Community and Economic Development and Parks and Open Space.
Ability to interpret legal descriptions and map with COGO.
Operate printers, plotter, and scanners.
Use standard office methods, procedures, and equipment
Experience using ESRI ArcGIS (ArcMap, ArcCatalog) is required.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
