Full-Time GIS Analyst

The Lincoln County GIS Department invites applications for a GIS Analyst to provide geographic information and mapping for Lincoln County and assist with floodplain administration. Maintain the county GIS system and web map. Analyze county impact using GIS as well as assist other department with projects involving the GIS system and other mapping elements. Provide custom GIS work or maps for different local agencies. Provide tech support and discuss new technology available. This is a full-time position with day hours Monday through Friday.
Examples of Duties:
Keep informed on innovations in the GIS field and train fellow employees on updates. Assist the public in using the GIS web map and create maps for in office and public use. Analyze census data and redistricting for electoral districts. Assess drainage patterns throughout the county. Determine watersheds for potential risk assessment and determine impacts on future growth. Create maps to be used by the Highway department. Assist Planning and Zoning with administration of ordinances by providing maps. Provide regular updates of the GIS system to 911 Dispatch for Lincoln and Turner County. Create maps or lists to be used in the Auditor’s office for elections. Work with 4-H to assist in a GIS day camp for kids. Check building permits and issue floodplain development permits. Discuss regulations with the floodplain administrator. Develop flood projects
for county improvement and amend related ordinances. Answer public questions in regards to floodplains and flood insurance. Attend meetings covering floodplain, drainage, storm water and related topics.
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in GIS, geography, engineering or a related field plus experience in database management and GIS system software. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of applied mathematics and property descriptions. Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying, geographic principles, GIS analysis techniques and computer programming languages and principles. Ability to maintain organized records and reports. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
Three plus years of GIS experience preferred. Considerable knowledge of ESRI products, modules, and extensions preferred.
